Dear Brothers and sisters
We are all going through a very difficult time and are faced with very challenging situations. We are losing loved ones and we have the responsibility to protect the living citizens from this illness which has affected all of us. Our communities are faced with tremendous difficulties. Therefore, in such situations, in Islamic history, the Muslim community, in line with other communities, have taken difficult and hard decisions. The following advice is going to be one of those difficult decisions in history.
In line with the detailed fatwa we received from the Ulema of Italy (available) who are going through a very terrible situation, advice from Mufti of Slovenia, advice from Muslim Medical Experts, agreement of local leading scholars and due to the need for the protection of others as well as consideration for health advice, the Federation of Mosques Sheffield has decided to make the following statement for local people and funeral directors:-
- that all deceased from Coronavirus are to be regarded as exempt from ghusal. A sealed body bag can be shrouded in the Kafan and the Janaza should be performed in the graveyard before the burial.
- that during the whole process of the funeral rites of the deceased, the advice of the UK government and the NHS of safe distancing and lockdown measures must be observed. Therefore the funeral should proceed only with limited numbers.
May Allah bless all the deceased as they are regarded as Shaheed and may Allah comfort their loved ones. We pray to almighty Allah to remove this illness from all mankind and bless us with his mercy. Ameen.
