To take benefit of one’s youth before reaching old age was mentioned by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and we here at Leeds Grand Mosque strive to implement and facilitate this.
The Prophet (pbuh) said:
“Take benefit of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free-time before your preoccupation, and your life before your death.” (Narrated by Ibna Abbas)
We are proud of our vibrant youth attendance in the mosque, their commitment and attachment to this particular house of Allah, i.e. LGM. We see time spend on youth as an investment in society and our community and we take their development very seriously indeed. We know that youth is our future; this investment and development of our youth is crucial, additionally a well-grounded and holistically developed youth today means a better overall future tomorrow. Our community lacks services that provide the children with holistic care for their mental, spiritual and physical development; but most importantly, healthy Islamic education for them. To address this we strive to provide different services and activities for them.
To nourish and develop their leadership skills, we encourage the youth to lead on projects; whether it be organising weekend courses or lead on youth circles. But more importantly, we are keen to invest in the development of the youth leaders through equipping them with Islamic education and the concept of leadership within Islamic principles; to help them serve Allah while learning leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
