O Muslims

Our beloved prophet Mohammad PBUH said:

‘’every person sets out early in the morning to sell his soul, either setting it free or destroying it’’.

Prophet Muhammad (SAAW)

The Muslim should therefore consider every new day to be an opportunity, and he should strive to seize all of the opportunities to do good that are available to him. As Muslims, the ultimate feeling of losing-out and regret should occur when we have missed opportunities to serve Allah and grow closer to Him – when we wake up from a phase of temporary laziness and realise just how far we have drifted from Allah…

After having been chosen by Allah to be a Muslim, with our beloved prophet Mohammad PBUH as a guide; after having been selected to be amongst the ummah which Allah described it by saying:

‘’you were the best ummah brought forth for humankind, enjoining good and forbidding evil’’

Quran - Al-Imran (3:110)

After being chosen for such a blessing, what loss of opportunity is bigger than to have lived a heedless life, unaware of the reality and purpose behind our existence on this earth? What regret is deeper than having neglected the trust we were meant to carry?

O Muslims

We need to stop and ask ourselves: where are we really, from the straight path of Allah? Where are we really from the gratitude we should be expressing for this great blessing of Islam? Have our hearts truly expressed gratitude through humility to Allah and through loving Him and being content with His decree? Have our tongues expressed gratitude through glorifying Allah, saying good and speaking only the truth? Have our limbs and our senses expressed gratitude by doing good deeds, staying on the straight path and obeying Allah and His messenger? Do we thank Allah for having chosen us to be amongst the ummah of the final messenger?

O Muslims

Those who are heedless – those who are lazy, and distracted by petty materialism will realise the value of what they had. But they will realise when it is too late. They will realise when regret will be of no value to anyone. Allah describes how the heedless in this world will be faced with reality on the day of judgement, He SWT says:

‘’No indeed if only you knew for certain; you will most definitely see hellfire; then you will see it with the eye of certainty; on that day you will be asked about the blessings’’.

Quran - Al-Takathur (102:5-8)

We need to use the blessings that Allah gave us in serving the purpose that He created us for.

O Muslims

What bigger regret should we feel than when we hear Allah’s description of the believers, when He SWT says:

‘’and when they listen to what has been sent down to the messenger, you will see their eyes overflowing with tears because they recognise the truth in it. They say Our Lord we have believed so count us amongst the witnesses’’.

Quran - Al-Maida (5:83)

And yet we have been blessed by being believers and have had the opportunity to recite the words of Allah day and night for so many years, yet our eyes don’t fill with the tears of humility and gratitude that what we have with us are the very words of Allah, despite Allah saying:

‘’Those who were given knowledge earlier fall down on their faces when it is recited to them and say glory to Our Lord, Our Lord’s promise has been fulfilled. They fall down on their faces, weeping, [and the Qur’aan] increases their humility’’.

Quran - Al-Israa (17:107-109)

What bigger regret? And what bigger opportunity lost, than when we hear in verse:

‘’Hurry towards your Lord’s forgiveness and a garden as wide as the heavens and the Earth, prepared for the righteous ’’.

Quran - Al-Imran (3:133)

It is in its beauty and bounty beyond that which has ever been seen, heard of or even imagined, yet we do not put in the proportionate amount of effort to achieve this, given that it is the ultimate goal. As our beloved prophet Mohammad PBUH said:

Allah’s commodity is expensive – Allah’s commodity is Jannah.

Prophet Muhammad (SAAW)

So where are the people of Jannah? Where are the people seeking it? Where are the people with high ambitions?

And from the greatest of regrets is to have both of your parents or one of them in your midst, and yet you do not enter Jannah through being good and gentle with them. Our beloved prophet Mohammad PBUH said:

‘’stay at the service of your mother, for there is jannah’’.

Prophet Muhammad (SAAW)

And he PBUH reaffirmed the duaa’ of angel Jibreel when he said:

‘’may he be humiliated, the one who was in the midst of his parents or one of them and yet did not enter Jannah through them’’.

Prophet Muhammad (SAAW)

Being gentle and good to the parents is one of things that earns us Allah’s satisfaction.

O Muslims

Every day is a new start, and at the beginning of every new day, remind yourself of the hadith of our beloved prophet Mohammad PBUH when he said:

‘’every person sets out early in the morning to sell his soul, either setting it free or destroying it’’.

Prophet Muhammad (SAAW)

So set your soul free by seizing every opportunity to use the blessings of Allah in that which pleases Him.

May Allah show us the truth as truth and bless us with following it, and may He show us falsehood as false and bless us with avoiding it. Ameen.

With that I conclude, and I ask Allah The Almighty to forgive us all.
